The Turtle

The turtle is the central symbol of Amalurra. In many cultures, it represents Mother Earth, ancestral wisdom, stability, and the slow yet steady cycle of life

In other traditions, it serves as a symbolic axis connecting heaven and earth, integrating the visible and the invisible: its domed shell mirrors the sky, while its flat body represents the earth.

The turtle of Amalurra symbolizes the deep impulse that gave birth to the project: the recovery of the complementary nature of opposites — light and shadow, creation and destruction, feminine and masculine. For many years, it was also the visual emblem of the project, serving as a silent guide.

Its shell, engraved with a lauburu (Basque word meaning “four heads”), unites this ancestral Basque symbol with the universal message of interconnectedness. The turtle reminds us how to inhabit the present, walk humbly and respect the times of the soul. She is a teacher of conscious slowness and a guide who shows us that every step, no matter how small, is part of a sacred journey toward collective transformation.
